Richard "Dick" Charles Yanke, Sr. died in Medical Center of Aurora on October 14, 2015 after a brief illness. He was 84 years old.

Dick was born on May 1, 1931 in Elkhorn, Wisconsin to his parents Herbert and Mary (Gill) Yanke. He was the oldest of 18 children.

After graduating from High School, Dick entered the Air Force, serving over 20 years and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant in Denver, Colorado. While in the military he was located at various duty stations including Truax Field, Madison, WI, Lackland AFB, San Antonio, TX, Chandler AFB, Chandler, MN, and Lowry Field, Denver, CO. His overseas duty stations included Ontario, Canada and Ismir, Turkey. After his discharge, he worked in outside sales for A-1 Auto Electric for several years. Then he worked at several hardware stores in Aurora until he retired in 1992.

Dick originally married Joyce Middleton in 1950 and had 5 children, who remained with their mother when they divorced. He then re-married Maxine (Pierce) Adams in 1960 who had 6 children.

In his younger years he taught Sunday school and Awana. Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, cross-word puzzles, and he could always be caught tinkering in his garage. But his greatest love was "family". He could make a drive in the country seem like an exotic vacation for the family, pointing out the various animals that he spotted from the drivers seat. Even in the most difficult of times, he always found a way to provide for his family. His children remember him most as a mentor and someone they could count on. always!

Dick is survived by his wife of 55 years, Maxine; brothers and sisters Darwin Yanke of Branson, MO, David Rex of Burlington, WI, Thomas (Jeanette) Yanke of Littleton, CO, Oscar (JoAnn) Yanke of St. Germaine, WI, Linda Lou Yanke of California, Grace (William) Gaethke of West Salem, WI, LeRoy (Chery) Yanke of Delavan, WI, JoEllyn (Duane) Wells, Chuck (Laura) Yanke of Seaman, OH, Jim (Ellen) Yanke of Thunder Bay, Ontario, and Mary (Nick) Garapolo of Naperville, IL.
